Our Mission

Our mission is to improve the veterinary profession by matching amazing veterinary professionals with a hospital in their community where they can maximize their unique skills and passions in a caring, supportive environment to help as many pets and people as possible.

Who we are and how we got here

After almost a decade of practice, Dr. Nicole Sheehan found herself disappointed with her veterinary career. She worked in one hospital that had great mentoring and pay but terrible culture, then practice with above-average culture but terrible pay and efficiency. In 2013, she set up her own hospital focused on good culture for all and an open mind for all medical strategies that would help her patients. By 2020, she and her business partner, Carrie Uehlein, had a team of 6 vets and 25 veterinary professionals, all feel like they love their career. Although most of them had not been trained in holistic or alternative medicine, they all embrace it after experiencing the benefits for themselves.

This way of practicing also brought in clients from all over, many driving an hour or more for both good results and a good experience. Many of the clients are even coming from out of state saying they just like coming to the vet. After having the reputation grow, Dr. Nicole started to have veterinarians and veterinarian professionals in other cities say they would love to come work together but live too far away from the main hospital. This gave Nicole an idea to start more veterinary hospitals in other cities, where other amazing professionals can again love their careers and see the benefits of holistic and integrative medicine.

Because many of our Charlotte clients also spend time on the coast, Whole Pet opened a second office in Wilmington, NC in 2020. To accommodate our integrative veterinary professionals and holistic-minded clients in the greater Charlotte area, a third practice was opened in 2021 on the Northwest side of Charlotte, an area near Mountain Island Lake. We currently are working to serve the South Charlotte community in 2023 and hope to also offer specialty care to the greater Charlotte area in 2023.

As of the end of 2022, we are looking to expand our doctors in Wilmington, add Rehabilitation to our Mountain Island location, and create more offices in North Carolina to accommodate our new doctors waiting to be added to the Whole Pet team. We also hope to open a Specialty Hospital in Charlotte in 2023.

If you would like to explore career opportunities with Whole Pet, please let us know. We would love to meet you! If you work outside of our current markets but think we would be a great fit for you, let us know! We may be looking to expand into your area and are just waiting for a leader in your community. Let’s connect!
