Happy New Year Whole Pet Family! As 2024 becomes a memory, we acknowledge that we have weathered the storms and embraced the joys. Cheers to a happy and healthy to 2025!

As the new year begins, many of us look to resolutions of various nature, often fitness and health related. This so fittingly goes together with January as “Walk Your Dog Month!”

I don’t know about you, but I certainly cannot think of a better way to spend my precious spare moments than with my pups. So why not talk about the health benefits of getting out there and staying active. It seems simple and obvious right? We know exercise is good for us, but what about our dogs? Well of course, yes, but in our busy lives, we don’t always make it happen. With the cutest accountability paw-tners on our side, I think we can strive to see it through!

Just like people, our dogs need to have a balance of the right diet and exercise to maintain a lean waistline, strong bones, and sturdy joints. So, let’s do it together. No one is saying you must start January first with a marathon (unless you want to of course, more power to you). Ideally, start slow and allow your pup to set the pace, especially if this is more of a new hobby. We want it to be fun and something you enjoy doing together. Start off by greeting the neighbors, stroll through the park, and let your pup work their nose on those satisfying trail smells.
If you desire a little more adventure or something scenic, hop in the car and head to the mountains or beach! Afterall, we live in such a diverse place, get out there and experience mother nature!
With time, these new hobbies will become healthy habits. I know as I drive into work every morning, I love to see miss Tucker with Ron H. and miss Bailey with Grady W. (who is 90 years young) taking their strolls.

With activity and age, can come sore, damaged joints. We ideally need to fuel our pups with the right support to keep them moving and grooving comfortably on these walks and hikes. One such way is with the right joint supplement.
Let’s first talk about the joint itself. Glucosamine and chondroitin serve as cartilage building blocks in the joint. In a healthy joint, cartilage breakdown is matched with cartilage production. As our pets age, their production ability of this healing mechanism begins to slow. Thus, by providing the body with this support orally, we can help our pets maintain their joint health and comfort. Additionally, studies indicate that there may be some anti-inflammatory properties associated with such supplementation and may stimulate the body to naturally produce additional joint lubrication.
At Whole Pet we recommend YuMove as our joint supplement of choice for a variety of reasons. It contains hyaluronic acid (synovial fluid building block) to help cushion the joint, glucosamine and Green Lipped Mussel (as a source of chondroitin) to maintain the joint structure, and Omega 3 Fatty Acids to aid in inflammation/stiffness reduction. It’s a taste and texture are just a bonus that my dogs love.

There are so many motivators for us to go on more hikes and walks – fresh air, reset our circadian rhythm, work-life-health balance, exercise, you name it. But I can tell you one thing for sure, your dog will be so thankful for the extra time spent with you.
